February 3, 2026, Westminster, MA — The Depault and Gonsalves families have agreed to sell Depault’s Ace Hardware in Cumberland, RI, to the Aubuchon Company, the oldest and largest family-owned group of hardware stores in America. The store will be rebranded to “Aubuchon Ace Hardware.”
Following a March 4th settlement, the Aubuchon Company will operate 136 stores across 11 states.
“For more than 40 years, the Depault and Gonsalves families have built a store rooted in relationships, service, and deep community pride,” said William E. Aubuchon, IV, President & CEO. “We have great respect for what they’ve created and are honored by the trust they’ve placed in us to carry that legacy forward.
“To our customers and employees, we want to express our sincere gratitude,” said Richard Depault. “Our family has had the privilege of serving this community for more than forty years, and that has only been possible because of the loyalty and trust of our customers and the dedication of our team. Many of our customers have become close friends, and many of our employees have grown alongside us. Supporting their homes, projects, and milestones has been one of the great honors of our lives.”
“This decision was not an easy one,” Richard continued. “Our roots in this community run deep, and it was important to find a partner who would respect what has been built over generations. Aubuchon shares our belief that strong stores are built through strong relationships. They understand the importance of caring for employees, serving customers well, and remaining deeply connected to the community.”

“We believe this partnership creates opportunities for the future,” said Morgan Gonsalves. “With Aubuchon’s support, the store and the team are well positioned to continue growing while staying true to the values that have defined Depault’s for decades. We’re excited about what lies ahead and grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.”
“We work hard, care for each other, and have fun,” said Will. “We’re excited to welcome the Depault’s team into our family and to support them for the long term.”
About Depault’s Ace Hardware
Depault’s Ace Hardware has proudly served the communities of Cumberland, Lincoln, Woonsocket, and North Smithfield for more than 40 years. Founded in 1985 by Ray and Marie Depault in Lincoln, the business has grown into a third-generation, family-owned Ace Hardware, committed to providing top-quality products and supplies for home and yard projects of every size. Following early success at its original location at the corner of Railroad Street and Manville Hill Road, the company relocated in 2000 to its current, larger facility in Cumberland to better serve customers with expanded space and improved parking.
Over the years, the store has continued to evolve through multiple expansions and leadership transitions. In 2019, Richard and Emily Depault, along with nephew and wife Morgan and Kaitlin Gonsalves, assumed ownership—continuing the family’s long-standing tradition of service and community involvement. What truly sets Depault’s Ace Hardware apart is its exceptional team and unwavering dedication to delivering an outstanding customer experience.
